Team Building Day - October 20, 2016 - Denver Art Museum

For our 2016 Team Building Day, we went to the Denver Art Museum.

We started with lunch at Palettes.

Then we ventured over to the museum with colored pencils and paper in hand. The exercise was to walk around the museum independently and find details to draw. We were given two hours. Many drawings were completed. Here are the chosen ones:

Design Challenge #7

This design challenge was another live design contest from 99Designs. The client was looking for a label design for their candles. They wanted a vintage look, with colors and font choices up to the designer. The center is left intentionally blank so the client can hand-write in the different scents. Stock imagery was allowed. Once again, we had a 30 minute timeline. Our judge for this challenge was our own VP Dave Pomeroy. Here are the entries:
Dayne Pillow

Erik Wogen

Anthony Toddy

Linda Cranston

And the winner is:
Iveth Gomez!
Congratulations!

Design Challenge #6

For this challenge we designed the cover of a book. This project was taken from a live design contest from 99designs.com. The team was given a prepared Photoshop document and 30 minutes to complete the assignment. Stock imagery from Adobe Stock was allowed.

Description of the organization and its target audience:
Grow Team is a national quality assurance and contracting agency that helps small business owners find the best technical resources for their ecommerce businesses

Description:
We are designing a new cover for second business book, following the success of our original title “30-minute guide to hiring a great online marketing partner”, which was an Amazon best-seller. Attached is a brief with the text we want on front and back cover. The book is a 6” x 9” book with a very narrow spine (no room for spine text). I’ve attached a copy of the original design which we really liked in terms of white space usage. We want a new graphical look but staying with clean, professional lines. We are open to the use of images as well, but want something a little different than last time.

Required Text:
Is Your Ecommerce Business at Risk?
A CEO’s 10 minute brief on protecting your revenue and making sure you have the right partners
Authors: Derek Preston and Brian Moaddeli

Here is the design of their last book:
A total of four designs were submitted. John Bennett served as judge for this challenge.
